GREEK CATHOLIC CHURCH BUILDING

GREEK CATHOLIC CHURCH BUILDING

The Greek Catholic Church of Nyírbátor is a beautiful and dignified symbol of faith and tradition in the heart of the city. The Baroque-style Greek Catholic Church of Nyírbátor was built in 1932 and renovated in 2013. At the ceremonial handover, Bishop Fülöp Kocsis blessed the church during the Holy Liturgy. A long-standing wish of the faithful living here was fulfilled at that time, as such a complete renovation has not taken place since the church was built. Not only the church, but also the church yard and the parish have been beautified. In 2024, the City History Walkway was extended, allowing visitors to relive the city's past between the Minorite Church and the Greek Catholic Church.

The building stands on a relatively narrow plot. Its main facade is divided by three-axis, Ionic-headed pilasters, which also appear on the side facades and the wall of the sanctuary, and an accented cornice runs around the entire church. The main entrance is closed with a segmental arch, framed by two reinforced pilasters with Ionic capitals, above them a cornice following the arch of the door, and on both sides there are stone vases.
Inside the church, the external splendor is somewhat reduced, at least in terms of architectural solutions.
